About Tal

Dr. Tal Oron-Gilad
I am a full professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and the George Shrut Chair in Human Performance Management.
I served as the chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management for 5 years (August 2015-July 2020).

My area of expertise is human factors engineering, specifically,  interaction design for autonomous and semiautonomous systems, interaction techniques for assistive robotics and decision support systems in transportation and operational domains. I have a particular interest in non-verbal communication, tactile displays, gestures and body movements and I have studied them in the military domain, in transportation (pedestrian behavior and drivers), and communication with assistive robots. I have studied workload, fatigue, alert maintaining and distraction.

In this site, I discuss my research interests, showcase our laboratories, and talk about recent publications.
 Education
I have a BSc. and MSc. in Industrial Engineering from the Technion, and a Ph.D. from Ben-Gurion University (2003). Following that, I was a research associate for three years in the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida.

Since 2006, I am a faculty member at Ben-Gurion University, in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. Full professor since 2018.
