About Tal

Dr. Tal Oron-Gilad
I am a full professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and the George Shrut Chair in Human Performance Management.
I served as the chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management for 5 years (August 2015-July 2020).

My area of expertise is human factors engineering, specifically,  interaction design for autonomous and semiautonomous systems, social assistive robotics and decision support systems in transportation and operational domains. I have a particular interest in non-verbal communication, tactile displays, gestures and body movements and I have studied them in the military domain, in transportation (pedestrian behavior and drivers), and communication with assistive robots. I have studied workload, fatigue, alert maintaining and distraction.

In this site, I discuss my research interests, showcase our laboratories, and talk about recent publications.
 Education
I have a BSc. and MSc. in Industrial Engineering from the Technion, and a Ph.D. from Ben-Gurion University (2003). Following that, I was a research associate for three years in the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida.

Since 2006, I am a faculty member at Ben-Gurion University, in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. Full professor since 2018.
