Affective Design deals with the emotional and hedonistic aspects of system and product design. Good refrences on the topic can be found here:
- Hedonomics – Affective Human Factors Design by Martin Helander
- Hedonomics: the power of positive and pleasurable ergonomics by Hancock et al.
In simple word, Apple products which most people covet are a good example, however the topic is much broader than product design and deals with complex systems and the way people interact with automation.
I’m interested in the following aspects:
- The relationship between usability and aesthetics; hedonic vs. pragmatic qualities
- Trust and first use impression; changes of trust over extended use
- Trust and reliability
Formerly (2010-2012) I served as co-chair of the “Affective design technical group of the IEA” with chair Dr. Halimahtun M. Khalid
